What RLMR is trying to achieve (our Aim)
  • To assist all persons in danger of drowning within our catchment area, that we are able.

    Rescue Boat in Calm Water
    BOAT FUNCTIONS
    The boat is to be used for the following purposes :-
    Surveillance & PreventionTo monitor designated area's for unsafe situations, provide guidance to the public and attempt to prevent unsafe situations from occurring; and to distribute safety information to the public.
    EducationTo educate members and the Public in correct operations and processes, including practise of such processes.
    RescueTo perform rescue of people in distress. To assists (only if able) to recovery of equipment and vessels. The prime function of RLMR is to render assistance (rescue) lives, not to the recovery of equipment, unless it is safe for members and equipment to do so.
    PassengersUnless performing a rescue, or with special permission of the Boat Captain, under no circumstances are non-members allowed aboard the boat. Members who do not hold Crewman Competency, are only allowed aboard the boat if the Skipper has given permission, and they have completed the Safety and Orientation training.
    TrainingPractise exercises, to help members perfect operating procedures.


    RLMR QUALIFICATIONS, POSITIONS & AUTHORITY
    Position Description Responsibilities Duties
    Crewman A member of RLMR, who has completed introductory safety and training. To assist Boat Crew when instructed to do so. To develop knowledge and experience, towards Able Crewman Competency. To following all directions of an Able Crewman or Skipper. Reports to the Skipper.
    Able Crewman A competent Crewman of the boat. To supervise Crewmen and patients and ensure safety of all crewman and patients. Is able to assist with all functions of the boat (other than those directly attributed to the Skipper) without further training. Is to following all directions of the Skipper. Reports to the Skipper. Instruct Crewman and Passengers as to safety.
    Advanced Crewman A competent Crewman of the boat. To supervise Crewmen and patients and ensure safety of all crewman and patients. Is able to assist with all functions of the boat without further training. Is able to drive the boat under supervision. Is to following all directions of the Skipper. Reports to the Skipper. Instruct Crewman and Passengers as to safety.
    Skipper (Flat & Partially Flat Water Only) Has overall responsibility for themselves, the vessel and all passengers safety whilst aboard (from when boat is taken from storage, and until the boat is stored). Limited to Flat & Partially Flat Water (during daylight hours) only. Makes decisions in regard operation of the boat. Command, delegates and instructs Boat Crew. Follows reasonable directions of Boat Captain and Patrol Captain.
    Skipper (Open Water) Has overall responsibility for themselves, the vessel and all passengers safety whilst aboard (from when boat is taken from storage, and until the boat is stored) Makes decisions in regard operation of the boat. Command, delegates and instructs Boat Crew. Follows reasonable directions of Boat Captain and Patrol Captain.
    Boat Captain Is responsible to the Management Committee of the Club in respect to RLMR. Directs RLMR team towards meeting its objectives. Directs, Captains and Crewmen as to appropriate actions, set policies in consultation with Skippers and other Stake holders. Manages all crew and skippers
