About us

Ithaca - Caloundra City Life Saving Club started operations in March 1954 with a group of six men whose aim was to form a Royal Life Saving Club that catered for men. This was unusual at the time, as Surf Clubs catered for men, while most Royal Life Saving Clubs allowed female members.

By the late 1950s and early 1960s the Club had grown to a reasonable size. During this time, patrols commenced at Bulcock Beach, Caloundra.

Originally the Beach was patrolled by women only. Later on, men and women patrolled on alternate weekends and mixed patrols began in the 1970s.

The Club is Not affiliated with Surf Life Saving Australia, and is independant of that organisation, being affiliated with The Royal Life Saving Society of Qld Inc. Whilst our operations, training and manuals are very similar (in many cases almost identical), the Club operates under The 'Royal Life Saving' umbrela and our Award System are recognised World Wide.

As the Surf Life Saving movement had its beginnings from Royal Life Saving, many of the main qualification are the same, for example the Club runs a Bronze Medallion (tm) which is very similar to the Surf Life Saving Bronze Medallion (tm).

Club Membership is open for application from any person (over 6 years old), that is able to assist the Club in its goals, which are primarily Patrolling our designated beach (Bulcock Beach, Caloundra), and educating members and the public in water safety and life saving techniques.
